I’m thrilled to show you the special Father’s Day gift I found on Minted for my husband in today’s post.
When Minted approached me about finding a thoughtful gift for my husband for Father’s Day, I knew just the thing because I have been thinking about giving this to him for years.
I’ve always wanted to create a wall gallery of maps showing the four cities in which my husband and I have lived – something to sort of represent the (fun!) journey that we have been on together. What’s nice with Minted’s custom maps is that you can choose the color and frame that works best with your home or office.
To order, all I did was type in the street address and city and then zoomed in or out to capture the scale I wanted. I upgraded to the letterpress maps just to give the wall gallery more depth and character, but you can choose the standard printing option or the pretty gold-foil as well. Within a day or so of placing the order, a helpful Minted artist contacted me with proofs and then worked with me to make sure the maps would together form a handsome wall gallery.
The first map is in Little Rock, where my family moved to when I was in the ninth grade. Instead of a map of the entire city, I thought it would be more meaningful to show our girls the neighborhood where our parents lived, where we attended high school, and our first apartment after we were married. The second map shows the beautiful Marina District in San Francisco, where we lived an idyllic life just blocks from the bay. It’s where our marriage really grew – without any family nearby I learned to be more dependent on him.
The third map is a little town called New Canaan, Connecticut, where our first daughter was born. So many sweet memories strolling the quaint downtown area and visiting my husband’s office overlooking the picturesque train station.
And, finally, Dallas, Texas, where we settled down and had two more children, and he has grown into the most wonderful father a mother could hope to have for her children.
I am so happy with the finished product – the brass frames look great in my house but are also masculine enough if he wants to move them to his office.
In addition to the framed custom maps, my girls helped me design personalized Father’s Day cards for their daddy and dictated to me the messages that were printed inside. This was a fun thing to do together (especially since I am not good at doing the Pinterest-y handmade gifts!) and such a great price for something he will keep in his top drawer or on his desk at work and smile every time he sees it.
These 5 x 7 cards are only $5.99 and can be framed after you give it to him – such a great price for a thoughtful little gift from a child. And a good opportunity to put to use the photos that never come out of your digital camera!
