I love that Princess Kate always has a refined, elegant – yet easy – look about her. With her loose curls and vibrant smile, she always seems put together, even when she is just playing outside with Prince George. Since her classic style looks great at any age, I researched some of Kate’s key wardrobe staples and am showing y’all how to dress like Kate no matter what your budget! (Also recreating Prince George’s play look, too!)
There is great sense in having a smaller wardrobe with key staples (with the occasional trendy thing thrown in for good measure!). In other words, you don’t need a closet à la the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills to look chic. If Kate can wear the same thing over and over (as you will see below!) and still look great, so can we!
Here are 10 key wardrobe pieces that Kate often mix and matches:
Note: some of the prices are actually less than they are showing up below, so click to see exact price. And see sale codes at the bottom of the post!
(1) Striped Tee, (2) Great jeans, (3) Sebago Boat Shoes
Kate loves a good striped shirt and a good pair of jeans and her boat shoes. Since where William and Kate live in England has a cooler summer climate, her outfit at a recent polo match is great fall transition outfit. She wore a very similar outfit last year.
Same boat shoes, jeans, and a similar stripe shirt!
Find your perfect combination below. For same color boat shoes, click on the first shoe picture (below) to select neutral color – these are great for fall because they are suede!. I also linked some Yosi Samra flats I mentioned recently – great for this same classic look.
To add to this classic look, I love how she added a navy pullover to this (same exact!) ensemble for the recent World Cup.
This Patagonia pullover would give you this same look during casual, cool weekends this fall.
I am hoping for the cooler weather soon! Next up in Kate’s wardrobe:
(4) Navy Blazer, (5) Great Wedge Heels (6) Neutral Shell or Top
I am telling you, this girl loves her stripes and her jeans! Here she added a navy blazer for a more polished look.
A navy blazer is a classic wardrobe staple must Below she wears one with a neutral top and her favorite wedges for another classic look. (A pretty statement necklace would make this pop even more!)
Find your similar look here.(Click on wedge shoes for navy or black color!)
(7) Feminine, Solid Color Dress and (8) Leopard Clutch.
A solid color dress may seem boring. But a well-fitting dress is something you can wear and enjoy for years – and different accessories can make it look totally new! For example, below you can see how she generously pairs a sold blue dress with her navy blazer for a smart day time look.
I would have never thought to pair a navy blazer with a royal blue dress, but it works. Here are some pretty blue dresses similar to Kate’s (these all come in blue and several other colors! Free shipping and returns on all of these so easy to try on at home!):
Last year I wrote about my hesitation to buy a red dress last fall, but I did not regret it. I could totally pull off this look with my Clare V. clutch. And as seen with this recent photo of Kate at Wimbledon, red can be worn all year!
Here are some more red dresses and leopard to recreate this look: A leopard clutch would also make the navy, wedge, jeans look dressy for dinner after work!
(9) Casual Plaid Button Down and (10) Wellies
Poor Kate – she can’t even go play outside with Prince George without some long lensed paparazzi taking her photo. How many of us can relate to throwing our hair up in a topknot and puling out the big plastic toys in our backyard (or English estate in this case!). Plaid was big last year and will be again this fall/winter.
And Kate loves her leather Le Chameau rain boots. They also come in rubber. The ones linked below are the lowest price I could find on the leather at about $240 (They are $400 on Zappos.) You can get the rubber ones (good for rain boots) for $200 on Zappos or linked on Amazon below where prices vary depending on the color).
These would also be cute with the jeans and a crisp navy blazer look on a fall day! I also found some Hunter boots on sale for 30% off in two colors.

Now for sweet little Prince George..
Such a handsome little play outfit for fall – and he’s wearing crocs! Recreate a similar look here!
And if you have to have the red smocked button-on outfit ($189 with free shipping) he wore at his sister’s Christening, it is my designer Rachel Riley and it is available for pre-order (Christmas, maybe?). And it also comes in blue!!
If you want his navy T Bar strap shoes, find them here.
Well, this was so much fun! I hope you enjoyed this post. Please note the below sale codes if any of the above items appeal to you.
