Around mid-December do you ever think about Christmas gifts you wished you had ordered, but just didn’t think about it soon enough? I do! That’s why I am continuing the tradition of my “Order Ahead” Gift list. You might find the perfect gift for someone. Or perhaps it will spark a memory of a personalized gift you saw over the past year that you wanted to order ahead for someone!
I have estimated order times for most of these, but please check with the company to be sure you will get in time for the holidays!
There is a funky little company out of Minneapolis called Peg and Plum that makes these adorable customized wooden peg doll sets. Send in a family pic (or just the children) and Peg & Plum will make everyone into peg dolls! What a fun gift that can be passed down through the generations. These are not only fun to look at but are great for children to play with because they are made from non-toxic paint. (Be sure to check out their chubby peg dolls for babies and toddlers)!
Bonus: Peg and Plum is giving a 15% off discount with code dosaygive15 through November 10th. Good on their entire etsy shop! A family of 6 like this (including the Boston terrier) is $130 but smaller families are less expensive. Another thoughtful gift idea from Peg and Plum is their precious hand-painted nativity set for $75 and their Thanksgiving set which would be cute to incorporate into place settings on a children’s table! 3. The Beaufort Bonnet Company Parrish Pom Pom Hat ($46) -Deadline passed
There are no words to describe the preciousness of these pom pom hats from The Beaufort Bonnet Company. At $46 (plus $10 for personalization) these hats make great gifts for nieces and nephews or your own children or grandhcildren. Don’t forget the matching Frances Fringe Scarf ($44).
Estimated Time: 8-10 weeks. Deadline has passed for Christmas delivery but order for the cold months of January and February!
Custom silhouettes are a beautiful way to give a personalized gift and Le Papier Studio has really mastered the art of giving them in unique and wonderful ways. (See them all here). You can order a single silhouette, siblings, couples, or the entire family.
Recently Emily Ley (whose planner I use) posted a pic of her silhouette necklace from Le Papier Studio. What a neat gift idea to pass along as a “hint, hint” to someone! The 14K gold plated necklace starts at $88 (more with each additional charm) and the 14K solid gold with the teeny tiny charms starts at $350. I love that you can choose from existing silhouette illustrations that look like your loved ones or you can send in a picture for a custom silhouette for $10 extra/per person.
Deadline for Christmas delivery: End of November
5. Sophie and Lili Custom Watercolor Portrait (starts at $80) – Deadline passed
A custom watercolor portrait is such a different and thoughtful gift idea. There are lots of artists on etsy but I’ve always loved seeing what Sophie and Lili artist Jennifer Vallez does. Since I posted about this cute company a year ago, Sophie and Lili has been doing collaborations with Sugar Paper LA and other big time companies!
All you do is send in a photo and she paints your family. This is a great first Christmas gift for newlyweds, too! Also, don’t miss her new custom portrait and pillow doll gift ($115) that all little girls would love!
Deadline: November 10th. (but check with Sophie and Lili to confirm).
6. Custom House Painting or Drawing
Last Spring I wrote about children’s portrait artists (another “hint, hint” gift for you mothers out there!) and one of the artists in the post, Susan Woodard of New Orleans, who also does beautiful custom house watercolors. Her prices start at $335 for an 8 x 10. (I did not contact her before posting so check with her for Christmas deadlines.)
I also found some other, lesser expensive options on Etsy, some of which offer some unique gift ideas featuring people’s beloved homes (like the painted ornament!). Scroll through below:
And don’t forget about Minted’s new line of personalized wall art:
If this is not the cutest thing, I don’t know what is! Get this doorstep necklace from Packed Party engraved with an actual address. Perhaps a childhood home, your first home as newlyweds, whatever address is close to you heart. Price is $98.
One year right after Thanksgiving, one of my friends gave all of her friends’ families advent calendars and I thought it was such a great idea! For her (she was then finished with a lot of her gift delivery!) and for her friends who got to enjoy it all season long.
For the fifth year now Naptime Diares (with the help of Lindsay Letters if you follow her on Instagram!) has put together this beautiful collection of prints that can be strung across your mantle or tacked on a bulletin board in the kitchen or playroom or displayed in some other creative way. This gorgeous Advent Calendar is not something you need to pre-order, but you need to order one soon if you want someone to enjoy it for the holiday season or give as gifts at the beginning of the holiday season. Use code LINDSAYADVENT to get 15% off!
And don’t miss the coordinating magazine-like devotional (geared toward women) for $22 (less if you order in bulk).
7. Homemade Vanilla!
Okay this is not an order ahead but a “make ahead” gift that you need to make soon to have in time for Christmas. Homemade vanilla is an easy, inexpensive, but thoughtful gift around the holidays for neighbors and friends and teachers! Here’s a blogger who has both the recipe and free printables. Here are some bottles:
