A Heartwarming Picture Book for "Little Teammates"

A Heartwarming Picture Book for “Little Teammates!”

Give

I love sharing sweet children’s books with y’all. As we are in the full swing of spring sports, I have the perfect one called Little Teammate to give to your children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews. (Perfect for those Easter baskets, too!)

If you have young children just starting to get their feet wet in the world of sports, ask yourself this: what do you want them to know about playing sports? That’s what author, Alan Williams, asked himself before he wrote this book.

Alan is known for his best-selling book called Teammates Matter: Fighting for Something Greater Than Self. Now in the food business, Alan continues to speak on the side to high school and collegiate athletic programs as well as leaders of Fortune 500 companies. He is also father of three young children under the age of six, which led him to write to a younger generation. And I am so glad he did!

For ages 2-7, this book is all about a “Little Teammate” who has a great first baseball game where everyone cheers his home run and his father is so proud of him after the game. But the next game doesn’t go so well. And Little Teammate thinks that his father will be disappointed in him.

But that’s not the case at all. This is what his father says to him in the book:

“I love you Little Teammate, I’m proud of you. It makes me so happy to watch you play…”

He goes on:

“I love you when you hit the ball. I love you when you miss the ball…”

(Cue the tears!)

This picture book definitely has a father/son storyline, but the heart of the book is about unconditional book and that, of course, applies to our girls, too.

As you may know, my middle daughter had double leg surgery last year and has had to wear braces on both of her legs. At the moment, she cannot run as fast as her peers. It’s quite discouraging to her and, honestly, I am so amazed and proud that she hasn’t wanted to quit or give up the sports she loves. (Because I probably would have!).

This sweet book gives me – and other parents of children who might not be the best or the fastest on the team – the simple words to say to her:

“Be ready. Do your best. And have some fun. And always know that I’m your biggest fan.”

Little Teammates hits bookstores later this month, but right now you can get a special discount if you order from their website: Order two or more books and they will match the number you order with an equal number of free copies! So if you order 6 books, you get 6 more free! Free shipping on two or more books.

This would be such a great little addition to your children’s Easter baskets. (Remember, you can browse all my Easter basket gift ideas in this post.)

Giveaway! We are giving away 15 of these precious books to one DoSayGive reader. Head to Instagram to enter!

Thank you to Teammates Matter for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.

Happy Reading!
