I posted lots of fun things on Instagram this week so thought I would go through and give you the details – too many cute things that you shouldn’t miss!
First, the school bus cake above is a tradition I started three years ago. My friend Megan told me her mom did this for her all growing up and that it is something she and her siblings looked forward to every year. My children have grown to love it, too! (My daughter asked my husband a few weeks ago: “Dad, do you think mom will make her school bus cake again this year?”). Of course! Find the recipe on my Pinterest Board: Family and Traditions.
Speaking of back to school, these Love Lucy printable customized labels ($6 for two) were perfect this week. I used one for a back to school gift from my husband and me. And one for a bag of apples my daughter gave to her teacher on the first day of school.
This roasted thyme chicken was a big hit in our house this week. I got the recipe from The Lush List’s guest post this week. Even though Alicia told me not to substitute summer squash (she said it might get mushy) I had summer squash from the farmers’ market outing so used it. And it tasted great! (I don’t mind a little soft squash!).
She also suggested adding potatoes, which I did – it helped spread the meal to two nights. I also forgot to buy prosciutto so just used bacon. Get the recipe here.
We attended a three year old’s darling Flamingo themed birthday party last weekend with a fun pink theme. Get some inspiration on Pinterest.
If you need a cute toddler boy birthday present (or girl!), Lois Lenski board books are fantastic. Classic, simple, and lovely illustrations.
Also, these Paul Galdone books make great gifts for 2-5 year olds. (congratulations Jessica Stanton for winning these on Instagram!) They have them in box sets of 5 (which I just discovered!) and at such a great price.
So many of y’all told me you ordered The Hundred Dresses after my Instagram post. It’s a timeless story – wonderful to read aloud to elementary children or older. I have several friends who read it to their boys and girls before schools starts every year (it’s about teasing and bullying). I can’t tell you how many times I’ve given this book as a gift to one of my daughter’s friends (usually paired with The Best Loved Doll).
Did y’all love my “Dress like Kate” post earlier this week? Please let me know if you’d like to see more of these type of posts where I find the same (or similar) pieces of things you see Kate (or other classic style icons!) wear. Give me some ideas in the comments below.
Here are some highlights:
I’ve been meaning to write a follow up to my original post about Beautycounter and I finally did this week. Sharing four products I am currently loving, including this lip gloss in peony (which makes a fun gift because it’s a great color for just about anybody!).
I’ve been singing the praises of Amazon Prime for a while now. Did you that you can watch tens of thousands of streaming movies and shows for free? We watched a Shirley Temple movie this week and my girls loved it?
Update: I linked several cute tooth fairy pillows and boxes – great for keepsake baby gifts or children’s birthday gifts (ages 4-6 usually). Love this one above I found on the Applewhite Handmade shop on Etsy. You can also all her designs personalized with a child’s name for $5 extra!
